Works-For-Me Wednesday: Pretty Dish Detergent

I'll let you in on a teeny tiny Works-for-Me tip. It's little but it makes me happy.
I keep my dish detergent in a pretty olive oil bottle.
And I buy detergent based primarily on it's color.
And I buy two different colors and pour them in slowly and carefully for a layered, sometimes marbled effect.
No, they don't stay layered. (So don't try layers of pink and green, you might get brown). But they mix to another nice color, and it's fun while it lasts. Yeah, sometimes the detergent goobles down the side, because the bottle is a little harder to use than the squirty bottles detergent comes in. But it's worth the goobles, at least to me. Plus you get to say gooble.
And it makes something mundane - like detergent - exciting and pretty.

Posted by Kim at August 30, 2006 7:54 AMThat IS very pretty! Nice that the different scents would meld together too!
Posted by: julie at August 30, 2006 8:58 AMI love this idea and am totally stealing it. Oh, I too buy soap based on color-- pink for us.
Posted by: Kelly at August 30, 2006 9:02 AMOh, cool! Sorta looks like a lava lamp...
Posted by: mom2fur at August 30, 2006 9:10 AMI love the idea of using two different colors! I use a pretty hand lotion pump for my detergent and it's not clear but you can see the colors so I'm definitely trying this! Love the look of your site by the way!
Posted by: Susanne at August 30, 2006 9:51 AMThat's really pretty, but tell me- do you have a dishwasher, or are you doing all your dishes by hand? I'm thinking that if I tried this, it would be totally unlayered by the end of the day, since I'm always washing by hand. Also, is that a glass bottle? Clumsy me would be nervous about knocking it over and breaking it. LOL
Posted by: Rosanne at August 30, 2006 10:08 AMThat is just a beautiful idea!!Our tip is up and we're also hosting the Carnival of the Vanities today - busy day in duck-land!
Posted by: MamaDuck at August 30, 2006 12:27 PMI use a similar glass decanter for my dish soap and love it. Now I'm going to try your layering idea! It looks so pretty.
Posted by: DivaP at August 30, 2006 1:35 PMAww, I love this idea..and I have tons of olive oil bottles sitting around. Thanks for the tip!!
Posted by: Larae at August 30, 2006 3:17 PMI love this idea and I use it too!! Plus, an added tip, I buy those bottle pourers (made for bartenders) and it gives me a precise measured amount of my soaps and such. Kinda cute looking too!
I have extra..email me if you want me to send you a couple..
Posted by: Christina at August 30, 2006 3:20 PMOooo, pretty! I like the heart-shaped stopper.
Posted by: staci at August 30, 2006 10:41 PMWhat a neat idea! I'll have to try this next time I need dish soap. :)
I've posted a WFMW tip as well, involving creating blogging categories. Stop by and take a peek. :)
Posted by: Overwhelmed! at August 31, 2006 8:09 PMYeah, we did that for a while, too. All I can say it, "You don't have butterfingered teens doing your dishes, do ya, honey?" :)
