The Sixth Day

Phew, are you keeping up with the pace of this?!?!

Today, OrgoDay6, we started upstairs with the girls' room.

I took some 'before' pictures the day Hollie came for the initial consultation, when we'd tried our best to tidy up. But this morning she came before the girls' had cleaned their rooms, so here's a 'worse' before. Having a place FOR things I think will really help them keep it clean.

In the pictures you might see that the hallway and boys' room are also in process. Hollie was busy organizing the girls decluttered and sorted things, and didn't really need me hanging around trying to help. So I took the big boys and we started the initial sorting into categories. I'm not sure how much we helped - but we did have a trashbag full and some things to give away, so at least it was a start. Of course, the 'magic' comes when she puts everything away, since that's when I feel most helpless.

While Hollie was busy and there wasn't much room for anyone else in the girls' room with all their stuff *out* Hollie's son took to the upstairs hallway. Not only did he sort and pile and organize the not-yet-gone through stuff, but he vacuumed AND scrubbed the railing clean. And he said he was having fun. I think he actually meant it. Learning to work cheerfully is a discipline I need, but to be honest, I can't really imagine scrubbing things being fun. Maybe I have a gene missing?

Anyway, stay tuned tomorrow for Boys' Room Part 2 - the Real Work

not a gene missing. Just a different set of gifts and talents. Hooray for people who like to scrub and clean and organize... and hooray for the creative folks who make self-striping yarn with kool-aid dyes... and actually know how to knit! ;o) I think the world needs both types.... and all the other types too, the car-fixers, and the thank-you-note writers, and the up-front-public-speakers, and...

How does your Hollie DO that? It is just amazing. Thank you for showing us your Orgo-plan, day by day. The photos help a lot. Maybe I should look at them every day to try to motivate myself to GET THERE somehow, too. Really, it's wonderful. Did you read that my dining room table is clear? But, I still haven't figured out what to do with the stuff I usually put on it. Oh well.

Same here, I don't know what to do with it all. We recently packed up the girls' room, like we were moving. Everything went into boxes, except one area of interest for each girl. Even then, there seems to be more stuff than room for it. They each only have five play outfits, yet I still find clothes on the floor. Very frustrating. I don't want my kids' lives to be one long hollering (or cleaning) session, but I value the calm a brain receives from living in an orderly home. At a loss here.

I want a Hollie!

Great blog!

I could use my Hollie. I am Hollies mom and soooo
proud of her. I have truly been blessed to have such a beautiful daughter inside and out. My grandchildren are so polite and angels. I have a card that reads "If I could sit on the porch across from God, I'd thank him for sending me you." (Flavia) I always think of my family when I read that.
I need her to HELP me in my basement. I, also am an artist and have a hard time parting with anything I think I can recycle. I have 3 kilns, a ton of art supplies. Closed my bar after 14 years and have paper work I need to save for tax purposes for 10 years. Wow! Talk about being overwhelmed.
Thank you for all the wonderful comments you have stated in your blog and the great photos.
Looks like you will be set for the holidays.
God bless all.

Dear Veronica,

It is so nice to "meet" you!! Hollie has spoken of you many times, and said such wonderful things about you and your art and eye for artsy things!! What a treat to have you visit my blog!!

It's been so fun getting to know Hollie as well as having her help; You have a wonderful daughter and grandchildren. What a blessing!

I hope I'm not stealing Hollie's help away from you and your basement! We're getting ready to tackle my basement soon - I'm saving it for last - and it amazes me that Hollie is undaunted by it when I find it so overwhelming.

Anyway, thank you for visiting my blog, and for bringing Hollie into the world, she has been such a blessing and a joy in my life!

:-)
