And It Shall Be Called The Winter Of Sledding

I fear I am setting an unwise precedent this year.

After 12 years of being pregnant or having a little one, this is the first year sledding has been less of a hassle, more doable. And we've had several good snows. (And, I hear, possibly more on the way!?) So we've been sledding a lot. But will I have to do this every year, now? What have I done?!?!

On Friday morning Karen called and invited us sledding*. (link to Karen's entry on the sledding) We almost didn't make it, but I'm so glad we did. The kids had a wonderful time being able to sled with friends, especially to make giant "blobsled" runs. And with only minor aches to my healing tailbone, it was a success.

My only real complaint is my pictures. I had my camera on the "sports" setting, and all my pictures are grainy. Whether that's because at some point I changed some setting I shouldn't have, or because there wasn't enough light on a dreary Michigan day (perfect for sledding, though!) or ... because I just don't know what I'm doing ... I don't know. But I'm bummed that I didn't get great crystal clear magazine quality sledding action shots. Perhaps I set my hopes too high?

So, as if all sledding pictures don't look more or less the same to you, and as if you hadn't seen too many already, I present: More Sledding Pix.

I'm still using the funky zoom. If you're on dial-up, I'm told the bigger pix load when you hover over them or click, so if you're careful to only point at the ones you want to see, the load time should be reasonable.

The regular kids (and moms) on the big city hill pictures:

Special thanks to Karen & Her Mom for the pic of me videoing on the way down.

The "Bad Idea" Series:

And - last but not least - yet one more video in my series of "Lets Film As We Sled!"

I'm way behind on my blog reading...again! I'm glad you are enjoying all this snow. We've had a lot too, and my boys have been building jumps for their sleds out in the field. I'm a wimp, though...I don't sled anymore. Oh, and now dh has a working snowmobile so they are REALLY happy! LOL

I'm glad you're having fun sledding. We have to make a two hour trip to get to the snow, and it just doesn't sound appealing to me right now. ;-)

Hi Kim, so great to hear from you! I'm answering you here because I deleted my "test"-entry (I was testing whether that silly video would finally show up but it didn't) and I'm not sure if the comments get deleted along with it. I enjoyed your sledding videos. I wish we had at least a little winter over here, but the second year in a row we have had nothing but rain, rain, rain and an extremely early spring. Everybody is scared that this could be due to the climate change already... The weekend was wonderful, though, really warm and lots of sun. Hugs from Germany, Katrin (Goldberry)

Oh no, I'm so sorry...

LOL! I had to laugh at Goldberry's many posts. My children want to go tobagganing too, so I'll probably take them this weekend. That's got to be a good way to burn calories, running up and down the hill. I loved the video Kim! It's so nice to hear your voice!

that looks SOOOOOOOOOOO fun! we don't get snow in TN. and even if we did, we wouldn't know what to do with it. but i reckon the kids would figure something out pretty fast, tho.

LOL...this is why I didn't post any of our Georgia "snow" pictures...I would compare them to other people's snow pictures and realize what truly wimpy snow we received. It never even actually covered the entire ground...you could still see grass and dirt peaking through, and it's just not the same.

Also..you are so much more adventurous than I am. I would be the mom standing there in my frozen tennis shoes trying to take pictures of everyone else having fun. I don't even do walking well, so I'm not so sure that sledding would be a success for me. :o)

Looks like fun! I'm glad you've gotten to go this year. Enjoy.
