Darkness Descends

Well, it's not really dark ... yet.

Our power went out! I don't know why. I called the automated line and reported it. No restoration updates. At least one neighbor said his was out, too. I did what I always do, stand in the driveway and look perplexed. I'm pretty good at it, really. Too few neighbors do that, these days.

I'm thankful for my Uninterruptible Power Supply, which beeps insanely but allows me a few moments to get the word out to the blogosphere. 'Cause for some reason you surely need to know we're out of power.

I guess I used it up.

Oh, it's back on, by the way. :-)

It WAS out 4 hours, though.

We lost power too... sometime after 10:30pm... Not good for a family who sleeps with fans running to block out the silence.

Everything shut down while Jules and I were in our room and not only did the darkness descend on us but also the awful sound of silence.... That is until we hear the small chirping of one of the little boys squeal, "Mom... Dad..." at which point we grabbed and lit a candle for them to be comforted with.

We were bombarded with the awful silence until about 2:30am. Something made the dog we are housing outside wake up and bark, which in turn woke us up.

I got up and told him to shut his pie hole, walked back into the room and VOILA! The magic of constant noise came back...

Wow... I kinda wrote a blog here.

I guess I wrote this to say, you weren't alone in the dark. :)

Phew! Good that we weren't alone! We didn't even have to suffer through the night -- we sleep with white noise, too. When The Big Ice Storm of Dickety-Six (or whenever it was) hit, we put a battery powered radio tuned to nothin' but static (sings: static in my attic from Channel Z) so's we could sleep.

Now I'm feeling like an idiot. That is such a smart idea. Chalk one up for Super Slugmom!

I'm going to get a couple of those now (one for the boys end of the house, one for our room) to have... JUSTIN CASE.
