About That Sauce ...
Well, it's still not perfect -- I've been meaning to say that when I had it on the cabbage slaw it was ... too ... intense? - not too *spicy* for me, but maybe too salty, or maybe too vinegary (I used 2 T. and the wrote the recipe calling for only 1 T.) ... Anyway, I can't quite pinpoint why it seemed too intense. It wasn't "run for a drink" intense, but ... still. And I'll still eat it up and enjoy it, but feel I must go on record to say "still tweaking!!"
I can't make another batch yet, until I finish the first, but I'll report back when I do. And if you try it, let me know what you think and any changes you try.
Oh, Kelly, if they don't sell fancy shredded cabbage where you live ;-) you can chop your own (if you possess two good hands) and regular vinegar should work if you don't have rice vinegar. :-D
Alright, alright, I've got to get moving. My 9 year old son said, "Did you ever notice in books that their homeschool runs a lot smoother than ours?"
:sigh:
Oh, but try out the emoticons in the comments -- you *should* be able to just click them to add them ...

Feed Hot Walk!
Feed
I moved the RSS link up on the sidebar and reworded it, but here, also, is the link to it: http://andfam.net/kimblog/index.rdf ~ now you don't have to check in on me daily unless I post daily!Hot!
Here's the Recipe I've been working on. It's not quite perfect, but it's close enough to post. I'm still tinkering with the sugar and vinegar amounts.Chinese Hot Garlic Sauce
Serve on cabbage salad, or over steamed rice, shrimp or chicken, and veggies.
You could substitute honey for the brown sugar, sesame oil for the chili oil, and of course adjust the pepper flakes to taste. This doesn't taste tooo spicy when you dip your finger in, but increases in heat when it's spread over your lunch. :) Mmmmmm, spicy!
Ingredients
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup water
6 clove garlic clove(s)
1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 cup dark brown sugar
1 Tbsp cornstarch
1 Tbsp rice wine vinegar
1/2 tsp chili oil
1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
Mince Garlic. Combine with other ingredients. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, until thickened.
Garnish with sliced green onions if desired. Makes 1 cup total; 4 quarter cup servings. Weight Watcher's points = 2 pts per 1/4 cup, or 1 pt per 2 Tbsp. -- I may try to tinker the points lower ~ it's low fat but high in sugar...
Quick and Easy Spicy Asian Salad
2 cups bagged coleslaw mix (without sauce)
2 T. Hot Garlic Sauce
1 T. slivered almonds
2 points per serving.
Walk
I did the WATP 2 mile Express this morning Gark and I had our date out and walked a mile down the Rail Trail and back, 2 miles total. That was nice.So that makes 32 miles this month, I think. And, erm, no water today. Yet!
Black Coffee, Garlic Sauce, and Spam
Black coffee
I keep totally over-using my weight watchers points on the weekend. This weekend I went way WAY over. So today and the rest of this week I've got to be super strict. So I'm cutting out my luxury points, my hazelnut creamer in the coffee. I'm not brave enough to cut out the coffee, although I should ...
Garlic Sauce
I've been trying to recreate a hot garlic sauce I got at a Chinese Restaurant. I made something not quite the same, but very good. In fact, Dad and Mom liked it better. But I feel compelled to do one more trial run, I bought some Fire Oil and want to try with that instead of sesame. But when I'm done I will post the recipe and my Easy Hot Salad recipe.
Spam
All my MT blogs hare being hit HARD with comment spam. I have deleted several hundred messages today. If that keeps getting worse I may have to make my HSB blog the one to rule them all. Bleh.
Life
We have some Life Cereal. Since it turns to mush quickly in the mouth, it makes a decent "I'm a big kid!" food for the baby. Today my oldest daughter was holding a piece out and he would open his mouth and she would pop a piece in. While doing this she was saying, in a 'robot' voice, "Open slot, insert life chip."
I have a weird family.
And odds and ends
Kelly asked why I was keeping the other blogs "open" ... I didn't mean iI'd USE them, or post to them, just not officially delete them. On xanga you can only comment if you're another Xanga user, so I'll keep that so I can write comments on my friend's sites. And since my hbs blog is on a shirt (!!!) and I''m part of blubber bloggers and other affiliated things, I'll keep the name, but just make it point to my real site. So. That's why I'm not killing off those blogs, but I won't USE them. Does that sound like I'm rationalizing? I don't think I am ... I guess I should TELL my hsb blog readers to come read here, though, eh?
And Robin's right, she did really suggest the same thing, just one blog with categories. I meant no offense in attributing that thought to Kelly Alone. Kelly's words were just most recent and foremost in my mind when I was rambling.
I must stop typing now, Righty keeps getting frustrated with Lefty's progress, and trying to join in, and I really shouldn't do that to Righty just just yet ...
